What to expect on my 1st Pelvic Floor appointment?
At your first visit, we will do an in-depth assessment, this will include details on your medical history, information related to your current condition in order to identify all contributing factors to your problem. All conversations are confidential. A physical examination will be done, the nature which will depend on your issue. This may include
How long are appointments?
All initial pelvic floor appointments are 1 hour long this allows us adequate time for a thorough assessment in identifying all contributing factors to your problem.
Follow up appointments are 30 minutes.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Please bring any reports from special investigations or testing such as urodynamic or MRI reports along with information on any current medication that you are taking. You may bring a change of clothes like a tank top and shorts if your main concerns are hips, back or shoulder.
Do I need a referral?
No you do not need a referral to make an appointment.
Medicare rebates are available if you are eligible for Chronic Disease Management (CDM) assistance. Only your doctor can determine if you have a a chronic medical condition and require complex care, they can then provide you with a special referral form. Please note that Medicare does not fully cover my professional fee and there may be a small additional cost.
DVA patients require a doctors referral. Please bring your DVA card with you to your first appointment.
Physiotherapy treatment rebates are available through most private health insurance funds.
What if I am unable to make my appointment?
24 hours' notice is required if you are unable to make your appointment. In the event of a late cancellation or non-attendance a fee will apply.

- An external physical examination of your posture, spine and relevant joints.
- An internal examination of the pelvic floor muscles. The muscles of the pelvis (the pelvic floor) will be examined (for women either vaginal or rectal depending on the issue) . Based on YOUR symptoms and findings you will be treated appropriately and given a program specific to YOU. Our priority is to ensure that you feel as comfortable and as safe as possible throughout your visit. This will only be performed with your full consent, there are other options available if you prefer.
- Use of a Real Time Ultrasound(RTUS) The RTUS allows the physiotherapist to assess your deep core muscles including your pelvic floor, transverse abdominals and multifidus using an ultrasound machine. You will need to come in with a bladder slightly full by drinking at least 500ml minutes to an hour before your assessment.
